
Professor Gillberg is University Hospital Chief Physician at the Child Neuropsychiatry Clinic, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Since the mid 1980s, he has been Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Gothenburg, a title he also holds at the University of Glasgow.
He is also an Honorary Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Child Health, University College London.
He works as a consultant for universities in Bergen, Norway (where he spearheaded the major project "Children in Bergen”) and for the Gilberg Neuropsychiatry Centre (GNC) hub at Kochi in Japan.
Professor Gillberg has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed articles on autism, Asperger's syndrome, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, Tourette's syndrome and eating disorders, as well as other areas relevant to the mental health and neurological development of children and adolescents.
He has written 30 books, which have been published in a wide variety of languages.
He is the most prolific researcher of autism in the world. His research ranges from basic neuroscience to epidemiology, clinical presentation and prognosis, through to intervention and treatment.
Professor Gillberg has received several awards for his research and has, among other accolades, received the King's medal of the Seraphim order (2009) and the Söderberg Prize for Medicine (2012).
He supervises many research students at GNC and at other institutions.
