Honorary Professor: Brian Taylor

Brian Taylor has been made an Honorary Professor.

Mr Taylor is BBC Scotland’s Political Editor, primarily covering politics for all outlets, including network. He joined the BBC in 1985 after working for the written press, including six years at Westminster.

In addition to news reporting, Mr Taylor has compiled several documentaries and has commentated on significant events such as the Scottish Parliament opening.

He also offers analysis of contemporary politics through his regular column on the BBC website.

Beyond broadcasting, Mr Taylor has written two books on politics and co-written several more.

He has lectured on politics and identity across the world. Key events include the John P Mackintosh lecture at the University of Edinburgh in 2011. Several lectures have been published as a contribution to academic debate.

He is a member of the advisory panel for the Scottish Social Attitudes survey, and is a regular contributor to the journal ‘Scottish Affairs’.

Mr Taylor graduated MA with Honours in English from the University of St Andrews in 1977.

He has received Honorary Doctorates of Letters from Edinburgh Napier University and Abertay University.

He is married with two sons.
