Honorary Professor: Brian Fleck

Brian Fleck has been made Honorary Professor of Opthalmology.

Professor Fleck studied medicine in Edinburgh, and particularly enjoyed an intercalated year in physiology.

He trained in ophthalmology in Edinburgh, London and Singapore.

While primarily a clinician, Professor Fleck has maintained a variety of research interests throughout his career.

These have included:

• studies of laser technology in the treatment of angle closure glaucoma
• laboratory studies of the developing retinal vasculature
• clinical studies of retinopathy of prematurity
• population-based genome wide association studies of genetically complex ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma, myopia and retinal detachment.

He collaborates widely, and recognises the value of working within local and international teams.
