Research impact online

A series of case studies examining the global impact of the University's research is now available online.

Based on results from the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, Edinburgh is ranked first in Scotland and fourth in the UK for research power.

The case studies highlight research being conducted in the University's three colleges that has extensive regional, national and global impact.

Highlights

The case study examples of the University's research impact include:

  • The Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime has increased understanding about youth offending and the impact of interventions, influencing policy and practice in Scotland.
  • Development of the GRACE risk score, which can predict heart attack risk in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome, has contributed to a change in practice and improved outcomes for sufferers worldwide.
  • Study of the parasitic disease schistosomiasis has led to public policy changes in Africa and successful prevention of infection in children under five.
