New Year Honours for staff

Three staff members have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.

Bill Whyte, Professor of Social Work Studies in Criminal and Youth Justice, has been made a CBE.

His award is given in recognition of services to youth justice in Scotland.

A former social worker, Professor Whyte works in the School of Social & Political Science.

He is also Vice-Chair of the Edinburgh University Association Football Team.

International reach

Professor Stephen Hillier has been made an OBE for services to international higher education.

Professor Hillier recently retired from his position at Edinburgh as Vice-Principal International.

During his time in this role, he led the University’s Internationalisation Strategy, Edinburgh Global.

He continues his association with Edinburgh as an Emeritus Professor and Honorary Professorial Fellow, with a personal chair in reproductive endocrinology.

Promoting activity

Professor Nanette Mutrie, Chair of Physical Activity for Health, has been made an MBE for services to physical activity and health in Scotland.

Professor Mutrie directs the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre in the Institute for Sport, Physical Education & Health Sciences.

She has extensive research experience, and has contributed to government policy on promoting physical activity.
