The University pledges to cut carbon

The University and the Students' Association (EUSA) have formally signed up to a national drive to cut carbon.

Participants committed to the 10:10 initiative aim to reduce carbon emissions 10 per cent in 2010.

Staff and student involvement

The University’s staff and students will lead the way in the collective ambition to reduce our carbon footprint.

Staff and students are invited to take part in two open workshops on these themes.

These will be held on Thursday 1 October in the Informatics Forum.

Colleagues who would like to champion a local or thematic initiative are especially welcome.

Anyone who wishes to contribute should contact David Somervell, Sustainability Adviser.

A strategy in sustainability

Joining the 10:10 campaign is just one element of the University’s efforts to advance social responsibility and sustainability.

The University’s Sustainability and Environmental Advisory Group has embarked on drafting a Social Responsibility and Sustainability Strategy.

The document will outline plans in this area up until 2020.

As a university we have invested heavily in energy efficiency projects – and will continue to do so; but we need our most valuable resource – our innovative staff and students – to help us deliver this ambitious target.
