Course Summary

This course is designed to support you to maximise your potential throughout your time at university and in your future careers, by guiding you through the key transitions of starting, progressing and leaving university. You will be encouraged, through the analysis of theories, models, tools and techniques, to become self-aware and take responsibility for your ongoing personal and professional development and ultimately your overall sense of well-being, enabling you to thrive in all aspects of your lives. You will be learning from business practitioners on how these theories, tools & techniques apply in the business world, through a range of guest speakers and case studies.

Course Description

This course will introduce you to a variety of theoretical models, tools and techniques which explore psychological well-being and their applicability in personal and professional development, and in the business world. These models will be used as the basis for developing self-awareness, personal and professional strength and growth, and evaluating how these can be fostered in others, in order to achieve a positive impact on personal, professional and organisational performance, through adaptability and change. Outline Content This course may include the following: - Understanding transitioning into university and potential culture shock; - Evaluating theories and models of psychological-well-being and their role in understanding oneself and others, and the business world; - Facilitating being self-aware and emotionally intelligent; - Building and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and team-working skills; - Recognising how feelings affect oneself and others, and personal and professional performance; - Understanding and utilising resilience, self-leadership, personal strengths and a sense of purpose as a way of enhancing personal well-being; - Personal and professional development; identifying, developing and reflecting on skills, mind-sets and behaviours needed to enhance personal performance at university and future employability. Student Learning Experience Fundamentally this course is about allowing you to understand yourself and others in a safe and supportive environment, so that you are able to develop strength, confidence and resilience in your academic, personal and professional journeys. You will be expected to undertake guided reading and lecture materials, and prepare for, and engage in, tutorials. There will be opportunities to undertake personal and professional formative assessments, understand group dynamics and how to work in groups, and benefit from group coaching conversations. You will be assessed through an individual vlog and an individual reflective essay.
