Soft Tissue Surgery
We have expert clinicians and advanced facilities for many soft tissue operations.
We provide a wide range of veterinary soft tissue surgical services, both for elective and emergency operations. We also have an x-ray film reading service.
Our specialist led service offers a wide range of procedures.
Portosystemic shunt surgery and hepatobiliary surgery
We have a regular case load of both intrahepatic and extrahepatic portosystemic shunt cases and employ a range of techniques including:
- mesenteric portography
- CT angiography
- CT angiography
- cellophane band placement
We also perform a range of other hepatobiliary surgeries including:
- biliary bypass procedures
- partial hepatectomy
- laparoscopic liver biopsy
Surgical oncology and reconstruction
We work closely with the Oncology Service to cover all surgical aspects of cancer management. Our case load regularly includes:
- complex skin reconstruction following mass resection
- body wall resection
All cases with suspected neoplasia should be referred through the Oncology Service in the first instance.
Wound management and reconstruction
We have a regular case load of traumatic wounds and of complex skin wounds requiring revisional surgery. We employ a full range of techniques including skin flaps and skin grafts to manage these wounds.
Please contact us directly if you would like to discuss the timing of referral or pre-referral management of a chronic wound. We are happy to advise on wound management from photos sent electronically if required.
We work closely with the Cardiopulmonary Service and perform a range of cardiac surgeries including pericardiectomy and patent ductus arteriosus ligation.
Cases should be referred through the Cardiopulmonary Service in the first instance.
Common procedures include:
- intercostal thoracotomy
- median sternotomy
- mediastinal mass resection
- pyothorax surgery
- lung lobectomy
- thoracostomy tube placement
- diaphragmatic rupture repair
- peritoneo-pericardial diaphragmatic hernia repair
- thoracic wall reconstruction
We perform an extensive range of gastrointestinal surgeries, ranging from elective and routine procedures to complex gastric resections and peritonitis management.
We also offer elective gastropexy in at-risk breeds and are happy to combine this with elective neutering if requested.
We have a regular case load of ear surgeries including total ear canal ablation with lateral bulla osteotomy and ventral bulla osteotomy.
Cases can be referred for assessment either directly to us or to the Dermatology Service. If pre-existing skin disease is suspected, we recommend dermatological assessment as part of the initial evaluation of patients.
We see an extensive range of cases with upper airway disorders including brachycephalic airway disease and laryngeal paralysis.
We also have facilities for intensive monitoring and aftercare of respiratory cases including climate-controlled oxygen cages and tracheostomy management.
We regularly manage cases with acute urinary tract obstructions and trauma and have a regular case load of incontinence cases.
We use contrast CT and cystoscopy to improve the screening for urogenital tract abnormalities and have facilities that include operative microscopy to facilitate the surgical management of these cases.
