General Practice clients

Centre of excellence

We have ready access to the most advanced diagnostic techniques and treatments.

When your pet is unwell, it is reassuring to know that we have the most up-to-date and advanced aids to diagnosis and treatment available on site.

Diagnostic imaging

DVSAP CT
Our top of the range CT scanner allows us to observe great detail

We have state-of-the-art imaging facilities which include:

  • ultrasound
  • radiography
  • fluoroscopy (moving radiography)
  • computerised tomography (3D x-ray)
  • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Our team of dedicated diagnostic imagers perform and interpret these techniques. This allows us to provide our patients with non-invasive approaches which can help us to investigate the most complex medical and surgical cases.

Laboratory services

DVSAP lab
Our extensive on-site laboratory aids in rapid diagnosis of disease

We have access to the Dick Vet’s excellent laboratory services which include:

  • blood tests (haematology, biochemistry, electrolyte analysis, blood smears)
  • skin scrapes
  • swabs for bacteria and antibiotic sensitivity
  • faecal and urine analysis
  • cytology
  • histology

Samples can be obtained with minimal intervention and your case vet will telephone you with the results as soon as they become available.

Equipment

The hospital has ECG and echocardiography (heart scan) for assessing heart rate, rhythm and structure as well as blood pressure monitors. These non-invasive techniques provide information about the heart and circulatory systems.

Endoscopes are also available to see inside the nasal cavities, airways and digestive tract and obtain samples in a minimally invasive way.

Surgical facilities

Operating facilities
Patients are closely monitored throughout surgery

Our surgical facilities have dedicated anaesthesia and theatre suites for soft tissue and orthopaedic operations. All surgical patients receive pain relief to ensure their comfort. Anaesthetics are carefully monitored and tailored to individual patient requirements.

Hospitalisation facilities

If your pet needs to be hospitalised, you can rest assured that they will receive the very best in care and attention during their stay: we have dedicated veterinary and nursing staff caring for inpatients 24 hours a day.

The building has been designed to minimise stress to the patient and allow optimal care. There are separate intensive care, medical, surgical and isolation wards. Feline patients also have a separate ward as they are easily stressed if dogs are housed nearby. All inpatients have heated kennels with padded beds, and dogs have access to outdoor runs.

We do all we can to minimise stress during your pet’s stay and we make them as comfortable as possible.

Referral

If a case requires specialist involvement, our vets have access to expert advice and can arrange referral to one of our specialist departments if needed.
