Linked Open Data in Ariculture

Louise Donnison, SEBI data analyst, attended a 2 day workshop in Berlin on Linked Open Data in Agriculture.

The workshop was organized by the German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutri­tion Initiative (GODAN) and the Association for Technology and Structures in Agriculture (KTBL).

The workshop covered a broad range of topics including research data sharing, data visualization, navigation and search, data availability and security, vocabularies, classifications and thesauri. Applications in livestock farming was also discussed during the workshop with a focus on vocabularies for agriculture, particular mention was given to AGROVOC. This is an area that SEBI will focus more attention on in the near future.
