The equine science programme - which starts in October - is unique in that it is being taught online and is aimed at graduates with backgrounds in biological sciences, zoology, animal science, equine science, pharmacology and veterinary science.

Knowledge Enhancement

Students, who will be provided with an online tutor, can opt to study for a certificate (one year), diploma (two years) and MSc (three years) through part-time learning. The programme aims to enhance knowledge of scientific study and research as well as assisting students in understanding how scientific knowledge can be applied to aid equine performance and welfare.

Study Focus

We set up this programme after research showed that online learning was the preferred option for those wishing to enhance their career professional development while not having to give up their jobs or relocate.

Dr Jo-Anne MurrayMSc equine science programme director

Courses include systems biology, scientific methodology as well as equine digestion and nutrition, equine reproduction, equine orthopaedics, equine behaviour and welfare and equine exercise physiology.

Students wishing to complete the MSc, which will cost in the region of £8,000 spread over three years, will need to submit a dissertation in their final year - aimed at furthering their understanding of the processes and planning involved in research.

Online learning

The programme will use the University’s award winning online learning environments, which includes video podcasts, web based discussion forums and expert tuition and brings together students and tutors from all over the world.
