Welcoming international Students to the Vet School
As a truly international vet school, the Dick Vet has students and Alumni drawn from over 70 countries worldwide. Our students become part of this ‘Dick Vet Family’ the very first day they arrive.
At the start of the academic year, we arrange a variety of welcome events and activities for our new international students.
We hold a Sunday welcome event at Pollock Halls of residence, with the chance to chat informally with staff and other students, ask questions and enjoy some great Scottish fare. This is followed by a walk to the Salisbury Crags for a great a view of the city and our students’ new term time home.
To help our new students find their way around, a bus tour of the city is arranged followed by a walk through the central university areas covering all the major buildings - with a stop for lunch, of course!
Student Welcome Week offers a wide array of activities for our international students and these events are arranged by Final Year Club and The University’s Students’ Union.
September sees a number of important events for new students, including the White Coat Ceremony where students receive their formal induction to the School.
This is followed by Hallowe’en events and Christmas and Burns’ events and Student Welfare Week in February.
As members of the Vet School and the wider University, our international students bring a richness and international dimension to our community and once a member of the Dick Vet Family, always a member of the Dick Vet Family!
In addition to the events programme, our Handbook for new vet students is designed to provide all the information they need in one place -
