UNCOVER Co-Founders Awarded MBEs
Congratulations to UNCOVER's co-founders, Professor Harry Campbell and Dr Ruth McQuillan, who both received the MBE in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.
The Queen's Birthday Honours are awarded to people who have made outstanding contributions to public life; so it is more than fitting that Professor Harry Campbell has this year been awarded the MBE for "services to international child health and global public health", and Dr Ruth McQuillan for "services to science during COVID-19".
Harry and Ruth co-led UNCOVER from its creation in March 2020, with Harry passing the co-leadership to Professor Evi Theodoratou on his retirement in 2021. Their vision, energy and commitment have enabled us to provide UK and international decision-makers with trustworthy public health evidence, recognising the need to maintain quality and rigour while working pragmatically within the tight timeframes and complex questions that characterise policy- and decision-making, especially in a crisis.
Their leadership of UNCOVER is only a fraction of Ruth and Harry's contributions to University and public life, and their Honours have been celebrated by colleagues from across the Usher Institute and beyond. We are enormously proud of them, and delighted that their hard work has earned such public recognition.
