Tobacco Control Capacity Programme

Population Surveys

Estimating the prevalence of substance use in Ethiopia and further understanding of tobacco use in The Gambia.

Our partner Addis Ababa University have conducted a population survey with the aim of estimating the prevalence of substance use (tobacco, khat, cannabis and alcohol) among school going adolescents in Ethiopia.

The MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM is conducting a sub-national population survey with two aims:

  1. To quantify and then monitor the burden of tobacco use and the effect of tobacco control policies on such a burden in The Gambia and
  2. To determine perceptions and knowledge of anti-smoking legislations and the barriers and opportunities to quit among current smokers.
