Postgraduate Research students can take up to eight weeks’ vacation time in a year, with agreement from their supervisor. There is no need to apply for an interruption of study when taking vacation leave.

The amount of leave taken at any one time, the period of the academic year when it is taken, and the stage of PhD study at which it is taken must be agreed in consultation with the student’s Supervisor and will take into consideration progress on the PhD and the student’s personal circumstances where relevant. It is essential that students consult their supervisor before booking tickets for holidays. As Precision Medicine students will also be taking taught courses, taught commitments should also be taken into consideration.

Information about annual leave for Research Students can be found in the Code of Practice here.
