Our centres

The Usher Institute includes the Centres for Population Health Sciences, Medical Informatics, Global Health, Biomedicine, Self and Society and the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit; as well as our hosted centres.

Centre for Population Health Sciences

With roots going back to the Public Health Sciences department established in 1902, the Centre for Population Health Sciences is a truly interdisciplinary research hub, drawing together researchers, clinicians and practitioners from public health, primary care, biomedical and social sciences.

Centre for Medical Informatics

The Centre for Medical Informatics focussses on the interdisciplinary study of designing, developing and using information technology solutions in healthcare.

Centre for Global Health

Taking a world-leading approach to measuring the global burden of disease, prioritising investments in global health, influencing governance structures and processes, and innovating for global health.

Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society

The Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society sits within the Usher Institute.

Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit

The Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit sits within the Usher Institute.

Hosted Centres and Units

The Usher Institute hosts additional Centres that include affiliations outwith the Institute, as well as an NIHR Global Health Research Units, RESPIRE and TIBA and Cochrane Vascular Review Group.
