Cleft Congress comes to Edinburgh

The 4 yearly International Cleft Congress is the largest meeting of global health care professionals involved in any aspect of cleft care – including antenatal, neonatal care, feeding, nursing, surgery, anaesthesia, psychology, genetics, orthodontic, dental speech and hearing as well as epidemiology, AI, data science and health systems research.

Cleft 2022 was awarded to Edinburgh after stiff competition and it’s the first time this congress has ever been held in the UK. Dr Felicity Vidya Mehendale, of the Usher Institute, is President of the International Confederation of Cleft Lip & Palate and Related Craniofacial Anomalies, and Chair of Cleft 2022.

Together, for better global cleft care

Despite postponement in 2021 due to COVID-19, more delegates have registered than for any previous congress. We will welcome 1200 in person delegates, from 80 countries and 20 disciplines as well as patients, parents and large NGOs.

Cleft 2022 will be the first hybrid congress and the first to have translation (Spanish, French, Mandarin).

Many of our themes are cross-cutting and of relevance to healthcare beyond clefts. We will build on strong international cleft networks with Cleft 2022 panels and Task Forces that have been developed to deliver outcomes and action plans that will shape the future of global cleft care and research for the next 4 years.

We would love to support even more of our LMIC colleagues to attend, so any help and support towards this would by hugely welcome!

On behalf of my colleagues in Edinburgh and the CFSGBI, I warmly invite you to join us in July 2022, for the 14th International Cleft Congress. We have much to learn from each other by sharing clinical experience, audit and research and building on and developing new collaborations. As we say in Scotland – Ceud mìlle fàilte (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes)!
