Dr Hilary Dobson is retiring. We are sad for us, but happy for her. Thank you, Dr Dobson, for your guidance, leadership and support. We welcome Professor David Cameron who is joining us as our new Deputy Director.

Dr Hilary Dobson OBE joined IHDP in February 2017 as our Deputy Director and has been instrumental to IHDP successes. Prior to joining us as Clinical Director, she set up and led the West of Scotland Breast Screening Service - one of the largest in the UK. Hilary was the Lead Cancer Clinician for the West of Scotland Cancer Clinical Network (WoSCAN) and in this post, she contributed to the Scottish programmes on Detect Cancer Early (DCE) and Transforming Care after Treatment (TCAT). She is also handing over her chairing duties for the National Cancer Quality Steering Group (NCQSG) whose focus has been the development and implementation of 18 tumour-specific and 3 generic Quality Performance Indicators (QPIs).
In 2014, Dr Dobson was awarded the OBE, in recognition of her contribution to cancer services in Scotland. We wish we could give her an award that matches a ‘Queen's birthday honours’ for her services to IHDP. She deserves one. We would not have made the progress we have made this far without her. If you have met Dr Dobson, you will know that she brings a tenacity to her work. She will remain a key influencer in both the development and delivery of a governance system to deliver continuous quality improvement in cancer care. Let’s face it: once a clinician, always a clinician. She has a special flair that brings many to the table. She is already missed around ours. We wish you the very best in your retirement, Dr Dobson. As one Deputy Director exits, another enters. We would like to take this moment to give a very warm IHDP welcome to Professor David A Cameron.
Professor Cameron is currently director of cancer services in NHS Lothian and CSO clinical cancer research champion. He is chair of the Breast International Group, a Brussels-based umbrella group of over 60 worldwide academic/not-for-profit breast cancer trials’ groups. He is also vice-chair of the steering group of the Oxford-based Early Breast Cancer Clinical Trialists’ Group. Lastly, he will remain the joint lead for the Edinburgh Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre.
