Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research statement on coronavirus (COVID-19)

Centre statement on coronavirus (COVID-19) - 19 March 2020

The coronavirus outbreak is a rapidly developing situation and the most up-to-date information for people in the UK can be found on the following websites:

Asthma and coronavirus (COVID-19)

For those with asthma, we would encourage you to read the health advice from Asthma UK, which is available on the Asthma UK website.

At the moment, it is unclear what effect COVID-19 has on asthma.

However, we know that when people with asthma get respiratory infections, this can trigger their asthma symptoms.

There are a number of simple steps you can take to help manage your asthma. These include taking your preventer inhaler daily as prescribed, and using an asthma action plan to help you recognise and manage asthma symptoms when they come on.

Please visit the Asthma UK website for full guidance.

Work at the Centre

Many of our Centre members in Universities across the UK are working actively on new research projects in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These collaborations across Institutions seek to ensure that we both collect and rapidly analyse the data needed to help shape the immediate and longer term response to COVID-19.

Our Annual Scientific Meeting

Our Annual Scientific Meeting 2020, due to take place in Leeds on the 25-26 March, has been cancelled.

We will instead be delivering a reduced programme of highlights from our research activities via webinar, from 1-4pm on Thursday 26 March.

Details of the webinar have been sent to our network. Please contact us if would like further information, by emailing aukcar.admin@ed.ac.uk.
