Background

Helen completed her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in the Institute of Immunology and Infection Research.

She worked as a STEMNET Ambassador during her PhD and after graduating continued working in science communication and engagement in Scottish schools, colleges and universities.

Her passion for learning and development led her to qualify as an academic learning and development officer which provided a rich and rewarding dimension to her science engagement work.

Helen currently leads the University of Edinburgh's Interdisciplinary Community-University Research Programme - Our Health. Our Health aims to tackle health inequalities by improving health literacy through participatory action research.

The research programme brings interdisciplinary teams of UG/PG students together to research questions that have been posed by community groups around health and well being.

Our Health aims to form a positive and valuable component of the University of Edinburgh’s public engagement with research portfolio, helping to create and sustain the engaged researchers of the future, as part of an engaged university.
