The ACE community are delighted to celebrate our friend and colleague, Kenny Baillie's success in being awarded a Pride of Scotland Special Recognition Award and becoming the new Professor of Experimental Medicine!
The awards were made in recognition of Kenny's hugely important work, in the fight against COVID-19, heading up vital studies and contributing to the trial which found the first effective treatment for the disease.
Kenny and his research team and wider colleagues have worked tirelessly since the beginning of the pandemic when the GenOMICC study (led by Kenny) was granted Urgent Public Health Research status by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).
It was subsequently given significant funding by Genomics England, UK Research and Innovation, the Department of Health and Social Care, and the NIHR.
The GenOMICC study team have now received over 14,000 samples of patient DNA for analysis and sequencing which has enabled them to make findings in both the understanding of COVID-19 as well as identifying appropriate treatment.
We are delighted that Kenny has received such wonderful public and professional recognition and we wish him the very best for his future work. Take time to enjoy this feeling of achievement now Kenny, you deserve it so much!
