Buses from all over the city travel within close proximity of the Western General Hospital.


Lothian Buses provide a number of bus services which stop within the Western General Hospital and on Crewe Road South. Lothian Buses serving the Western General include services 19, 24, 29, 37, 38, 47, 113, N37, X29, X37 and X47.

Airport buses

Airlink 100

The Airlink 100 is the express bus service to/from the Airport. The journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes. 

It runs every 10 minutes from 04:00 to midnight, and every 30 minutes between midnight and 04:00.

The route runs from South St David Street (next to Waverley Station / Princess Street) to Airport Bus Stop D.

Skylink 200 and 400 

Lothian Buses run two additional bus services to the airport. 

200 - Departs Ocean Terminal, in the north of the city, up to every 30 minutes between 03:10 and 23:15. Departs Edinburgh Airport up to every 30 minutes between 04:55 and midnight.

400 - Departs Fort Kinnaird, in the south of the city, up to every 30 minutes between 04:15 and 22:00. Departs Edinburgh Airport up to every 30 minutes between 05:35 and 22:35. 


A single adult ticket on Airlink/Skylink buses is £5.50. A return adult ticket is £8. Tickets can be bought on board the bus. Lothian Buses Ridacards and Scottish National Concession passes can be used on Airlink.

Night buses are run in the City Centre, as well as into East Lothian and Midlothian. Night Buses follow much of the same route as their daytime counterparts and therefore many areas are served by buses 24 hours a day. More information is available from Lothian Buses.

Across Edinburgh city centre (with the exception of Airport services) you can purchase a single adult ticket at a cost of £2 when you board the bus. The correct change is required if paying by cash.

Lothian Buses has a contactless payment system, which automatically charges you the cheapest daily or weekly fare for the journeys you’ve made. There is a cap of £4.80 per day, or £22 per week.

A range of day tickets, multi journey tickets and pre paid tickets are also available directly from bus operators.


One-Ticket is a season ticket for use with the different public transport operators across Edinburgh. With One-Ticket, you get 'unlimited' travel by bus and train in East Central Scotland.
