Organised around the different campuses of the University and throughout wider Scotland, our events provide you with an opportunity for you to network, discuss practice, talk about CPD, explore the benefits of professional qualifications and registry with professional bodies, and share resources.

2024 Events

Save the date - Thursday 6th June 2024 Surgeons' Hall 

We are excited to announce the next date for the Scottish Association of Histotechnology - 45th Scientific Meeting on Thursday 6th June 2024 will be held at the Surgeons' Hall in Edinburgh and to reveal a taste of our amazing line up.   

This will include several professional speakers, including Kat Irving, Human remains conservator at Surgeons' Hall, Jules Kenicer and Pamela McCall Head of the Glasgow Tissue Research Facility and will be covering topics from Anatomy, Dissection and many other areas.  A Full programme for our event will also be sent out soon as well with the Registration form for our meeting which is attached for now.

This is an excellent opportunity to network with fellow professionals from all over Scotland in many different areas ranging from Hospital and research laboratories to universities and private hospitals as well.

Group Tour Surgeon Hall

In addition Surgeons' Hall have also kindly agreed to provide a free group tour of the anatomy museum at the end of the meeting between 4-5pm, for those interested please mark this on our registration form.

Registration Open

Registration is £30 per person. Payment can be made on the day by cash, card or cheque. The meeting is free to full time students with a valid student card.

 

Catering 

Tea, Coffee will be available and there will be a Hot buffet Lunch as well. Please advise the committee of any dietary requirements when registering so that we can notify Surgeon Halll.  

  Poster Event

     This year we are also having a poster competition. posters can be from any BSc/MSc project or other departmental research.  A  panel of  judges will make the decision and there is a cash prize of £50.

2023 Events

Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD) Technical Alliance Event 2023:Community & Connection - 15-16th November 2023

The University of Edinburgh colleagues based at Edinburgh College of Art will be co-hosting the Council for Higher Education in Art & Design’s Technical Alliance event 2023 alongside external colleagues at The Glasgow School of Art, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and Robert Gordon University. This year’s themes are Community, Sustainability and Alignment with day one of the conference held at ECA and day two giving rise to a series of different workshops and presentations across Scotland’s Arts focused Higher Education Organisations.

Good Research Practice Week: 20-24th November 2023

The University of Edinburgh Good Research Practice Week will be held during 20 - 24 November 2023.

Research Support Services Conference: 31st October 2023

Technician's across the University of Edinburgh were invited to attend the Research Support Services Conference held on 31st October.  The conference was structured around three themes: Developing and Improving Research Support Services, Developing your technical knowledge of research and careers in research support.

Central Scotland Technical Conference: 6th June 2023

The joint University of Glasgow and University of Edinburgh Central Scotland Technical Conference was held at Hunter Halls, University of Glasgow, on Tuesday 6th June 2023.  It was attended by over 200 technicians from 12 different universities around Scotland.  Sponsors of the event included Merck, ThermoFisher, VWR Avantor and was supported with a network grant from the Scottish University Life Sciences Alliance.
