Travelling to the University

Based in Edinburgh, the University is accessible by road, rail, and air. Travelling to Scotland is also possible by ferry.

When thinking about carbon emissions, travelling by air releases about five times the carbon emissions compared to going by train (on average, per km).

With this in mind, to reduce your carbon footprint:

  • Avoid air travel  wherever possible.
  • If you must fly, direct flights usually emit less carbon than indirect flights.
  • Fly in the lowest possible class. The share of carbon associated with economy seats is lower than other classes, such as premium economy, business, or first class.
