Become a staff Sustainability Champion
Join a network of staff and students making the University of Edinburgh more sustainable. We will help you develop the skills you need to lead positive change in your area of work.
As staff, students and citizens, our decisions matter. The new Sustainability Champions network will support the University community to make positive changes in response to the climate emergency and global Sustainable Development Goals.
The role of Sustainability Champions
Act as a champion for sustainability in your area of work, and work with others to embed good practice.
Increase your own knowledge of sustainability by reading materials and attending events organised throughout the year.
Support and empower others to become more sustainable.
Be an honest and critical friend to the Department for Social Responsibility & Sustainability, giving us feedback on how the support we offer is working for you in your area of the University.
What are the benefits?
There are multiple benefits to being a Sustainability Champion:
Join an enthusiastic network of staff and students from across the University who are also interested in sustainability.
Receive newsletters, training and events to increase your knowledge of sustainability and your confidence to take action, leading to professional and personal development (which you can highlight at your annual review).
Take on a flexible role designed to suit different interests, knowledge levels and workloads.
A space to make your voice heard and find solutions to sustainability issues you face.
Connect with other Sustainability Champions on Yammer
Yammer is a social networking tool to help you to collaborate on projects, discuss social responsibility and sustainability issues and get to know other Sustainability Champions.
Please use your University of Edinburgh email address ending in @ed.ac.uk when you sign up.
We host events and other opportunities for Sustainability Champions once a quarter, if not more. So far we have hosted introductory events and workshops. There is more in the pipeline, with plans to host field trips, social gatherings and training on topics linked to sustainability.
