What are the grants?

The Derek and Maureen Moss Student Climate Innovation Grants 2021. Apply for up to £1,000. Deadline: 31 October.

The Derek and Maureen Moss Student Climate Innovation Grants are one-off financial contributions made to support student-led initiatives that aim to address and mitigate the climate crisis.

The grants are coordinated by the University of Edinburgh’s Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability, in collaboration with Development and Alumni, with support from the Edinburgh University Students’ Association and Edinburgh Innovations.

What activities do we support?

Grants of up to and including £1,000 are awarded to recognise and support student-led innovation and research that is impact-driven and that aims to help society address the climate crisis. These new grants will help implement ideas that provide solutions, raise awareness, promote creativity, and enhance community engagement. A key aim of the grant is to help stimulate new ideas, fund innovative projects, and support student groups with already viable impact enterprises or start-ups.

The grant supports a wide range of projects including:

  • Community outreach (including both the University community and external communities)

  • Innovation and enterprise (including start-ups)

  • Research, learning and teaching

  • Student experience and extra-curricular.

The Derek and Maureen Moss Student Climate Innovation Grants are intended to support student-led initiatives that further contribute to the positive impact on the world that the University community is making. The grants will also support the delivery of the University of Edinburgh’s Strategy 2030Climate Strategy and Social and Civic Responsibility Plan.

Applicants can gain inspiration by reviewing winners of a similar grant which has supported student-led projects across a broad range of sustainability issues.
