Free public events series returns asking how society can create a more socially responsible world.

Trending societal issues are the focus of an upcoming series of free public events.

The annual Visions for Change series returns and this year will explore Scotland’s housing crisis, modern slavery, and the scourge of plastics.

Organised by the University’s Department for Social Responsibility & Sustainability, the events aim to educate staff, students and the public on topical issues facing society and examine how individuals can drive social change.

Tackling modern slavery through transparency

Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation

In 2015, the UK Government enacted the UK Modern Slavery Act, requiring large businesses to report on their actions to combat modern slavery in their supply chains. This event will provide an opportunity to assess whether companies are taking concrete action on modern slavery and human trafficking.

Rethinking the future of plastics

Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation

Disposable plastics are only used once before they are recycled or thrown away. This event will explore society’s current reliance on single-use plastics, examining how we deal with plastics better and what other options there are for packaging our products.
