The University and Sleep in the Park

This year Social Bite are bringing together 9,000 people in Princes Street Gardens on 9 December for the world's largest ever Sleep-Out to try and end homelessness in Scotland for good.

UPDATE: We are delighted to announce that an additional 250 tickets have been made available for free to staff and students.

Social Bite have invited some amazing musicians to “busk” stripped back acoustic sets including Liam Gallagher, Deacon Blue, Frightened Rabbit and Amy Macdonald. They also have Rob Brydon hosting the event, Sir Bob Geldof sleeping out and John Cleese has agreed to come and read a bedtime story!

The University of Edinburgh is proud to support this worthy initiative. It would be great to see as many staff and students get involved as possible either individually, in groups or by sponsoring others.

Initial sign up is free and to attend the event a minimum fundraising of £50 per participant is required. A private donor has enabled the initial £50 donation to be waived for the first 200 University of Edinburgh students and staff who sign up using the special code.

Already, teams from our Estates department and Festivals Office have organised some fundraising events in November which are open to everyone at the University.

Sign up process

  • Sign up for free using the referral code SITPEDI to zero the registration fee
  • You can sign up multiple people to the event so feel free to create a team with your fellow students and/or staff
  • Your fundraising page will be automatically created, with all funds raised being added to the University of Edinburgh campaign page
  • Each participant must raise an additional £50 in order to receive a ticket to the event and take part in the sleep out
