University of Edinburgh launches “Take Action for Sustainability” pilot to drive green behavioural change

The University of Edinburgh is gearing up to pilot a new initiative called "Take Action for Sustainability." The programme is designed to encourage students and staff to make more sustainable choices.

Using the principles of behavioural science, the bespoke platform will reduce the University's environmental impacts and further embed a culture of sustainability.

What is "Take Action for Sustainability"?

The web-based platform, accessible through browsers or the Apple and Android app stores, is designed to inspire participants to adopt sustainable behaviours through a self-paced engagement model. It offers practical guidance across themes such as energy, waste, shopping, travel, biodiversity, wellbeing, skill-building, and networking.

As part of the pilot program, participants will have the opportunity to test one of two cutting-edge platforms: Jump and Pawprint. By trialling the features of each app, the University will gather valuable insights to determine which one better aligns with the diverse needs of our community.

Why participate?

The University of Edinburgh is committed to becoming more socially responsible and sustainable with a target of becoming net-zero carbon by 2040. The "Take Action for Sustainability" initiative calls on all students and staff to pitch in and help reach this goal.

The project focuses on practical challenges such as carbon emissions, waste management, and how space is used.

Participants can earn rewards, like vouchers for local businesses or charitable donations, as a way of recognising and encouraging their contributions to these sustainability efforts.

Who can join?

The initiative is open to all students and staff at the University of Edinburgh, providing an inclusive platform for everyone to contribute to sustainable practices.

When does it start?

The pilot is set to launch in February 2024, with rolling registrations accepted throughout the duration. The pilot period will run until November 2024.

How to participate?

Join "Take Action for Sustainability" to contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for the University and the wider global community. Once registered, participants will be guided to create an account on the web-based platform, accessible through browsers or the Apple and Android app stores.
