Student opportunities

The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability (SRS) offers a range of ways for students and staff to get stuck in, no matter your background, what you are studying or where you’re working.

Whatever you’re interested in, we've got you covered:

We recommend beginning with our Introduction to Sustainability online course. It will introduce you to some of the ways you can become more sustainable at the University of Edinburgh, and in your own life.

Introduction to Sustainability

For those wanting to explore the climate crisis in more depth, the department runs accredited Carbon Literacy Training, online and face-to-face. Carbon Literacy means being aware of the impact of everyday activities on the climate, knowing what steps can be taken to reduce emissions and why it’s important that we all take these steps.
