Embedding Social and Civic Responsibility into our Planning and Reporting

The Social and Civic Responsibility Plan includes a key area of activity around embedding the plan and its objectives across the organisation.

Academic Colleges and Schools, and Professional Services Groups will develop plans for how they will integrate these commitments across what they do. To support this work, we are using and building on existing approaches to understand both the positive and negative impacts, we have.

In 2019-20, the University made progress to integrate the climate crisis and the Sustainable Development Goals into committees’ remits and papers. Key strands of this work going forward include the following:

  • Review and develop underpinning concepts and methodologies.
  • Ongoing and high-level qualitative assessment of the University’s key activities, processes and functions against the objectives of the Social and Civic Responsibility Plan, including commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Develop guidance and training for academic and professional staff wanting to embed the climate crisis and Sustainable Development Goals into what they do.
  • Proactive engagement and communications to embed a culture of active engagement with issues addressed by the Social and Civic Responsibility Plan.
  • Embed the climate crisis and the Sustainable Development Goals into key committee remits, the planning round and business cases.
  • Develop a tool for self-assessment for all parts of the University wishing to embed the climate crisis and the Sustainable Development Goals into what they do.
