SHRUB Co-operative

A student co-operative launched in 2013, with the aim to reduce waste, share skills and promote a smarter, more sustainable way of meeting peoples’ material needs.The SHRUB aims to enable not only students but alumni, local residents and the wider community in Edinburgh.

2012-13 Highlights

Staff and students have run, swum and baked in aid of the University's Community fundraising efforts, helping raise money for research, scholarships and bursaries for students.

Cleaning Staff and students from the University took part and supported local community efforts in Edinburgh City Council's Royal Mile Spring Clean during April 2013.

The School of Mathematics set up its first ever outreach team with both staff and student involvement, undertaking a series of public engagement activities with school children and international festivals.

Edinburgh Neuroscience's public engagement programme provided opportunities for researchers to convey their work to the general public, this included delivering workshops and a week long roadshow for over a thousand local school children.

The University took part in Edinburgh Doors Open Day during September 2012, as part of a programme of European Heritage Days, allowing visitors from the local community to obtain a glimpse of architecturally, culturally and socially significant buildings and spaces.
