Social Responsibility and Sustainability

Visions for Change: Holding back the plastics tide

The Visions for Change event series examines topical environmental and social issues making the headlines, and considers the changes being made by individuals, organizations and whole countries to create a more socially responsible and sustainable global society.

Why are plastics a problem? What are the solutions? What can staff, students and the general public do to be part of the solution?

With Collins Dictionary selecting "Single-use" as their word of the year and plastic-free shops appearing all over the country, 2018 will be known as the year awareness about plastic pollution exploded. This event will hear from those combatting the issue hands on, through paddle boarding the coast of the UK, campaigning and delivering on marine conservation policy, opening zero waste shops, or personally living a waste free life.

We will hear from each panellist about their work in fighting plastic pollution, with a chance to ask the panel your questions

The panellists are:

Cal Major, Paddle Against Plastics

Catherine Gemmell, Marine Conservation Society Scotland

Zsuzsa Farrell, Leithers don't Litter

Matt Foulds, Founder of Edinburgh's first zero waste shop; Eco Larder

Laura Young, MSc Environmental Protection & Management Student, University of Edinburgh

Event Chair: Sarah Ford-Hutchinson, Department for Social Responsibility & Sustainability

The Eco Larder will also be selling a small selection of their products to help you start living a less wasteful life.
