Accessibility statement for SRS microsites

Accessibility statement for MySRS, the Business Travel Reporting Tool and the Roundtable for Sustainable Academic Travel

Website accessibility statement in line with Public Sector Body (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to three websites: MySRS (https://my.srs.ed.ac.uk/home), the Business Travel Reporting Tool (https://businesstravel.sustainability.ed.ac.uk/) and the Roundtable for Sustainable Academic Travel (https://businesstravelroundtable.ac/).

These websites are run by the University of Edinburgh’s Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability. We want as many people as possible to be able to use these websites. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • magnify up to 200% without text spilling off the screen
  • navigate to most of the website using just a keyboard
  • use the system without timeout

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Customizing the website

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability. This is an external site with suggestions to make your computer more accessible:

Technical information about these websites’ accessibility

The University of Edinburgh is committed to making its websites and applications accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

The full guidelines are available at:

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The following items do not comply with the WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria:

  • Not all prerecorded audio-only or video-only media will have alternative media that presents equivalent information e.g. audio track with description of the action in a video with no sound
  • Not all video will have subtitles or subtitles that identify all speakers as well as noting other significant sounds e.g. laughter
  • There may not be sufficient colour contrast between font and background colours especially where the text size is very small.
  • Information is conveyed as an image of text rather than as text itself so that it's not compatible with screen readers and other assistive technology
  • Visual information to identify user interface components, such as keyboard focus, do not always have a sufficient contrast ratio
  • Most tooltips disappear as soon as the cursor moves. Also tooltips are not always present for all icons and images.
  • Not all our PDFs and Word documents meet accessibility standards.

Unless specified otherwise a complete solution or significant improvement will be in place by March 2021 for the issues within our control.

Disproportionate burden

We are not currently claiming that any accessibility problems would be a disproportionate burden to fix.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

At this time, we are not claiming any material is out of scope.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will continue to work to address these issues and deliver a solution or suitable workaround. Where issues are under our control we will work to rectify to correct issues. We plan to resolve the issues that are within our control by March 2021.

We will carry out further accessibility testing if significant changes are made to the user interface or if a service user raises an issue.

While we are in the process of resolving these accessibility issues, or where we are unable to, we will ensure reasonable adjustments are in place to make sure no user is disadvantaged.
