Cameron Fairfield

Current

Cameron was awarded his MBChB from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. He completed his foundation doctor training in NHS Lothian and NHS Borders in 2017.

Cameron has joined the surgical informatics group and under the supervision of Mr Ewen Harrison will be examining the association between gallstone disease and cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease remains the most common cause of death worldwide and many of these deaths are preventable. Gallstone disease represents one of the most common presentations to surgical units worldwide and is associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Cameron’s research will focus on investigating the relationship between gallstones and cardiovascular disease to identify whether gallstone disease can be used as a predictor of future cardiovascular events.
