Caroline Stevens

Caroline Stevens is in her 4th year in the School of Social and Political Science studying MA (Hons) Sociology with Quantitative Methods.

"I was drawn to Edinburgh because of the reputation of the university, however the city itself has grown to become home to me. To me, Edinburgh has that perfect balance between the amenities of a capital city and the charm of a small town."

My student experience

“I love that there are always people willing to help you, whether it be course mates, students in higher years, or University staff.  Having completed high school online while pursuing professional dance training, I was not used to having so much support and a feeling of community.

"To be completely honest, most of my social life revolves around my part-time job and friends from work, so I’d say that I feel more like a local than a part of the student life at the University.”

Around 100,000 students call Edinburgh home, giving the city a unique buzz and ensuring you’ll be in good company. Discover more about student life at Edinburgh.

My programme

“I chose my programme because of its scope; I knew that I would constantly be excited to learn and uncover aspects of social, economic, political, and emotional life.

“Sometimes you just want to gravitate towards the ‘exciting’ bits of sociology (e.g. crime, digital sociology), the biggest challenge is being patient and paying attention to theories and methods.”

I love that there are always people willing to help you, whether it be course mates, students in higher years, or University staff.

My future

“The sociology programme equips us with practical skills such as learning research techniques and statistical programmes while also developing an open-minded and creative outlook on social life. These skills can be translated into almost any work context, allowing for a variety of career paths.”
