Ethan Stoker is a 2nd year student studying BN Nursing Studies.

"I wanted to go to the University of Edinburgh as it has a notable history, it’s based in a cool city, and it’s very far away from my home town."

My programme

"My programme, and the wider University, have strong links with local services, providing valuable experience that is very helpful for my skill development.

Lecturers are very knowledgeable on their subject areas and seem to contain an infinite amount of facts about their specialties. They still act as teachers, but give a very personal touch and provide a good support base.

The lecturers make full use of the University's resources to create a structured teaching programme for the semester.

The University has a vast amount of resources available to students. Most notably the Main Library, which hosts all the resources, reports, books and articles I will ever need for my studies.

The buildings used for lectures are refurbished, modern, and make 2 hour lectures a bit more bearable.

The Students’ Association also have a few buildings available that can be useful for social ventures.

The hardest part about my programme so far is writing university-style essays, which have a large learning curve."

My student experience

"Edinburgh is a very pretty and historical city with a great night life. It is very compact so you are never too far away from anything or anyone.

I enjoy the independence of student life - being able to do what you want, yet still having a support system when needed."

Around 100,000 students call Edinburgh home, giving the city a unique buzz and ensuring you’ll be in good company. Discover more about student life at Edinburgh.

My support

"Since coming to the University of Edinburgh I have seen a vast array of support services available to students. These include lecturers, Personal Tutors, and other staff who provide on-programme support, but are also available on a more personal level.

I have also seen a lot of support surrounding accommodation and moving to Edinburgh, which continues to be available even after moving.

The University also provide a lot of support via other students. Through 'families' and societies, as well as my peers and flatmates, I have a lot of support available from people who have been in similar positions and understand my situation a bit better."
