Laura Findlay

Laura Findlay is a 3rd year student studying MA Chinese and Economics.

"Studying at the University of Edinburgh seemed like an obvious choice. The University’s reputation for excellence appealed to me, as did the wide range of courses."

My programme

"The small class sizes in Chinese mean that you quickly become a tight-knit group. It also allows your teachers the chance to properly get to know you, as well as your individual strengths and weaknesses in your work.

I was nervous to begin studying such a difficult language, but I’ve loved being able to tackle it head on with a group of such lovely classmates. Telling people that I study Chinese always impresses.

With such huge groups in each lecture, there is none of the intimacy of a Chinese class when you study economics. However, the lecturers are so passionate and enthusiastic that it is difficult to leave a lecture without feeling inspired."

My student experience

"Staying in halls of residence is a very worthwhile experience. It allows you more freedom and independence, whilst still maintaining a degree of support from the University and the ResLife team.

I met some of my closest friends in Edinburgh through living in halls, who I would probably never have met otherwise, since we study in completely different disciplines.

I’m so glad I chose to come to Edinburgh. I can’t imagine having such an amazing experience elsewhere."
