Aitalina Semenova is a 4th year student studying MA Architecture.

"I have never seen the world as I see it now. It is crazy. My programme has really changed the way I look at the world and it is only the beginning."

My programme

"I am not a big fan of history but I knew that it is one of the fundamental subjects for architecture so I thought why not make it more fun and actually study in a place that has a lot of historical buildings and it is great."

The University campus is in the Old Town and it’s super convenient in terms of meeting other students from other universities, as well as non-students. The city is small enough to walk around it and big enough not to get bored.

My student experience

"It was very important for me to like the city of and the University and when I visited Edinburgh the weather was perfect. I was there for a week and it was very sunny. However, it was not sunny anymore when I arrived. The weather really tricked me but I still fell in love with the city.

The University campus is in the Old Town and its super convenient in terms of meeting other students from other universities, as well as non-students. The city is small enough to walk around it and big enough not to get bored.

Also, the airport played an important role as I travel 24 hours every time I go home so I had to make sure that there was an airport. The connection between the airport and the city is super convenient too.

I never actually really looked into clubs and societies before I came to university but I was thrilled by how many of them there were available. It was amazing, so I joined three sport clubs and two societies, crazy.

Sadly I had to give up all the sport after two weeks into semester one though. However I think it is very important to have something to do outside of your course so I joined the Triathlon Club for semester two.

So you will definitely find something that suits you. And of course night life. It is super fun to go out in Edinburgh.

I really like spending time outdoors and the city has all the things I want. Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill, the sea, Meadows etc. Sometimes it is just nice to go for a little run around Arthur’s Seat during stressful times.

In my opinion it is the city that makes the University really stand out and there is no way of experiencing it without visiting it and getting involved in everything."

Around 100,000 students call Edinburgh home, giving the city a unique buzz and ensuring you’ll be in good company. Discover more about student life at Edinburgh.
