Support services
Societies and community
The Students' Association supports more than 350 student-led societies and clubs, from the A Cappella and Business Societies, to the Yoga and Zoology Societies.
It also promotes opportunities with local charities through its volunteering center.
Venues and events
The Students' Association runs multiple student buildings, which contain several bars, retail, catering outlets and event spaces.
Potterrow Dome sits in the University's Central Area and is the main student building on campus. It is home to Baristo Coffee Shop, Potterrow Bar and Kitchen, the Advice Place and more. There's always a busy programme of events during term time and plenty of space to relax between classes.
Teviot Row House, opened in 1889, is the oldest purpose–built students’ union in the world. It is currently undergoing renovation work to serve the next generation of Edinburgh students. The building is due to reopen in Spring 2025.
The Pleasance, just a short walk from central campus, is a world-class centre for student activities. Its facilities include dance studios, a multi-purpose performance space, TV and radio production studios, and a cafe and bar.
Students based at the College of Science and Engineering can also enjoy spaces in King's Buildings House, the James Clerk Maxwell Building and the Nucleus, including the Wrap Bar and Shop, Tempo Coffee Shop and badminton courts.
The Students' Association is also responsible for organising events in Welcome Week and throughout the year, from language cafes to live music and community events.
Student support
The Students' Association provides free and confidential guidance to students on everything ranging from academic issues to financial assistance through the Advice Place. It also creates opportunities for students to connect and help each other through programmes such as Peer Learning and Support.
