All our students are automatically made members of our Students' Association, which works on your behalf to ensure you have the best possible experience during your time here.
The Students' Association provides specialist student services, representative councils and union buildings.
Societies and community
The Students' Association supports more than 290 student-led societies and clubs, from the A Cappella and Business Societies, to the Yoga and Zoology Societies.
It also promotes opportunities with local charities through its volunteering center.
Venues and events
The Students' Association runs four student union buildings, which contain several bars, retail and catering outlets.
Teviot Row House, opened in 1889, is the oldest purpose–built students’ union in the world and sits in the University’s Central Area next to the unique domed student venue, Potterrow.
Recent multimillion-pound redevelopments include study, social, meeting and events spaces alongside retail, bar and catering outlets at King’s Buildings House.
In addition, a world-class centre for student activities including dance studios, a multi-purpose performance space, TV and radio production studios and a cafe and bar at the iconic Pleasance complex.
The Students' Association is also responsible for organising events in Welcome Week and throughout the year, from language cafes to silent discos and food fairs.
The Students' Association provides free and confidential guidance to students on everything ranging from academic issues to financial assistance through the Advice Place. It also creates opportunities for students to connect and help each other through programmes such as Peer Support and International Buddies.
