Open Day activities
General information about what to expect from some of our main Open Day activities is additionally provided here.
These talks provide an introduction to our subject areas and other aspects of studying with us, including accommodation, admissions, study abroad, sport and student life. Attend as many talks as you like to find out general information about areas that interest you.
We hope that capacity will allow for a guest to accompany registered prospective students in to their talks. However, when space is limited we’ll make sure that students are prioritised and we ask for your co-operation with this.
All talks are included in the registration form, and booking a talk in advance will reserve a place for the prospective student associated with the booking. Remaining spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis on the day.
Information desks provide an opportunity to ask staff any questions you may have.
There will be plenty of staff available between 10:00 - 16:00 to give you information about all of our subject areas, as well as admissions, student finance, study abroad, careers, student welfare, sport and student life.
Information desks do not require an advance booking, and are open to all registered visitors including accompanying guests.
Some subject areas are offering sample lectures to give you an insight into what studying might be like at Edinburgh. Whilst the lectures are presented by academics from a specific subject area, they may be of general interest to a wide audience, so feel free to book any you would like to even if it is not your primary subject of interest.
We hope that capacity will allow for a guest to accompany registered prospective students in to taster lectures. However, when space is limited we’ll make sure that students are prioritised and we ask for your co-operation with this.

Our School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures offer one of the widest range of languages of any UK university. On the Open Day you can join us for beginners’ taster sessions, each covering a language from Europe, East Asia or the Middle East. We’re aiming to help you walk away from the Open Day with a new skill, so expect languages you might not have had the chance to try before!
To give you an authentic experience of small group learning, numbers are very limited and advance booking is required. In order to prioritise spaces for prospective students, these sessions are not suitable for accompanying guests.

You can view many of the excellent facilities you might use as a student here, including our libraries, sports facilities and some accommodation options at Pollock Halls.
Some subjects also offer tours of their facilities, which require advance booking in the Open Day registration form. Where capacities are limited, prospective students will be prioritised for spaces on these activities.
Our self-guided audio campus tours also allow you to explore our campuses at a pace and time that suits you. The app is free to download and is compatible with most iOS and Android devices - all you need is a smartphone or tablet.
Find out more about our student accommodation options and ‘accommodation guarantee’ from the information desks as well as multiple talks throughout the day.
There will also be a selection of accommodation open to view at Pollock Halls, though please note that limited example rooms will be available to view as our students are resident during term time.
Our admissions staff will be available at information desks to provide one-to-one, tailored advice on applying to the University.
Questions about your university application and entry requirements should be directed to these Admissions information desks, not the subject area information desks.
While admissions talks provide general information about admission to the College, the information desks offer you the opportunity to find out about detailed entry requirements for your chosen programme and discuss your particular circumstances.
Staff at our Fees & Student Support, and Scholarships & Student Funding information desks can provide information about funding opportunities, tuition fees, scholarships, bursaries and financial assistance.
