Open Day programme

Open Day activities are included in the booking form for you to add to your ticket, which we hope will help you to plan your day.

Information desks are not listed in the booking form, but are open to all visitors between 10:00 - 16:00.

Do I need a booking?

A booking is required if you wish to attend our Open Days in 2023.

Advance registration should be made to reserve a space at the talks, sample lectures, labs and subject area tours. For many activities we anticipate that you will be able to bring an accompanying guest, but this will depend on capacities. Prospective students will always be given priority.

Remaining spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the day.

Veterinary Medicine activities

Due to the fact that the second Open Day takes place after the UCAS early deadline for Veterinary Medicine, on Saturday 28 October only an information desk at our Central campus will be available for Veterinary Medicine. Visits to Easter Bush will not be possible on this date.

Accompanying guests

Some activities are due to be busy, and where space is limited our priority will be to ensure that prospective students can attend.

For this reason, your booking for a particular talk, taster session or tour will ensure that the prospective student associated with the booking can access that activity, but guests may not be able to accompany if the activity is very busy. Any remaining spaces will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, with priority for prospective students.

We appreciate your understanding with this, and guests of students who are registered for the Open Day will be welcome to attend the information desks and visit University facilities.

The guest policy for the Veterinary Medicine visit is slightly different - please refer to the booking form and your booking confirmation email for details.

Confirmation of booking

You should receive confirmation of your Open Day booking by email within 2 hours. If you haven’t received this, please email us on ug.recruitment@ed.ac.uk.

Cancelling or amending your booking

If you need to cancel or amend your booking for the Open Day, please follow the instructions in your booking confirmation email.

Waiting lists

Some activities have a very limited capacity, after which a waitlist will open. We recommend joining waitlists in case we are able to increase capacities closer to the day or have cancellations. Your booking will be automatically updated and you will be able to view your status at any time via your booking confirmation email.

If the event is cancelled

We will explore all options to avoid cancelling on-campus events, however there may be rare occasions where events or sessions are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We are unable to accept liability for any costs incurred by visitors (e.g. travel, accommodation). Therefore you may wish to consider travel insurance or flexible tickets.

Getting proof of attendance

Every prospective student who checks in will have their status updated to 'Attended' on their online ticket, and this can be accessed from any of the emails we send you. Please note that we are unable to provide prior proof of attendance due to the volume of visitors we receive at each Open Day.

Accessibility

If you would like to provide us with information about any specific accessibility requirements, you will have the opportunity to do so when booking your place for the event. This may include but is not limited to: accessible parking, BSL sign language interpreter, portable hearing induction loop system, large print materials or any other reasonable adjustments. Please note we do not provide foreign language translation.

If providing these details within the booking form is not suitable for you, you can alternatively get in touch with us on ug.recruitment@ed.ac.uk.

If you will require a sign language interpreter for the event you must let us know in advance as we require at least two weeks’ notice in order to provide this service.

All Open Day venues will have level access or can be accessed by lift. However, if you or an accompanying guest are unable to self-transfer to a fire evacuation chair please get in touch on the email address above so that we can provide you with more detailed advice about venue access.

If you require Blue Badge or accessible parking it is important that you let us know in advance so that we can arrange suitable campus access for your visit.

The University works with AccessAble to provide details about the accessibility of our buildings and facilities.
