Undergraduate Open Day

Making the most of Open Day

Plan your day in advance to get the most from the time available.

When you arrive

When you arrive you can go straight to the talk or information desk for the subject(s) you are interested in, but if you need some help or want to pick up a programme or prospectus, go to one of the Help Desks in the main Open Day venues.

There will also be red gazebos located in George Square in the central area, and near the shuttle bus drop off point at King's Buildings, where you can pick up programmes, ask for directions and speak to our student helpers.

Please remember to print out your tickets and drop them off at one of our Open Day Help Desks. You can do this at any point during the day.

Some talks might be very busy, especially during the morning, so keep in mind that most are repeated later in the day and that these repeat talks are often less busy. Where talks are very busy we will prioritise students before admitting accompanying guests.

Registering your interest in a subject on the booking form does not guarantee you a place in a specific talk.

A small number of our most popular subjects are ticketed and require you to book a place for talks or tours. We highlight these on the booking form and in your confirmation email but for information these are:

  • Medicine talks
  • Veterinary Medicine tours

If you need help or directions, just ask one of the student helpers in red hoodies or t-shirts, one of our uniformed staff, or go to any Open Day Help Desk.

Subject information

Choosing the right degree programme for you is an essential part of any Open Day.

Most subjects will offer introductory talks and will have staff available at information desks to answer individual questions.

Student facilities

You may want to use Open Day to find out about the range of student facilities at Edinburgh, such as libraries or sports facilities.

If you plan to move away from home to go to university you may want to attend one of the accommodation talks or visit Pollock Halls of Residence.

You can also attend talks on Sport at Edinburgh and visit the Pleasance Sport Complex and Gym as well as meet students and staff from our Sports Union (EUSU) and Students' Association (EUSA).

General information about university life

You may also have questions about studying at university in general.

Advisors and talks will be available throughout the day to answer any queries you might have about topics such as:

  • student finance
  • admissions
  • student life
  • support for disabled students
  • careers
  • study abroad opportunities

There will also be a series of general information talks.
