What financial support is available?

If you normally live in England there are funds available to help you finance your time at university.

We’re committed to helping students of all ages and social backgrounds enter higher education and recruiting the best students regardless of financial situation.

What help is there?

  • we offer one of the most generous financial support packages in the UK for students from the lowest household incomes
  • you can use the University of Edinburgh Scholarship for either tuition fees or living costs
  • you do not have to pay back the University of Edinburgh scholarship
  • you may also be eligible for government student loans
  • Government funding

If you're studying full time for your first degree you may apply to Student Finance England for a loan to cover your full tuition fees.

You can also apply to Student Finance England for loans to help you with your living costs.

Government loans can be used to study anywhere in the UK and will be available for the duration of your degree.

What you will receive is dependent on your household income.

You make one online application for both your tuition fee loan and living cost support.

University of Edinburgh funding

In addition to government funding, we offer the University of Edinburgh Scholarship that many of you will be eligible to receive.  You may use your scholarship to contribute towards either your tuition fees or your general living costs while at Edinburgh. The amount you may receive depends on your residual household income.

We also offer a number of other bursaries and scholarships to new full-time undergraduate students. You must apply for these bursaries and scholarships as early as possible after applying for admission.

You do not need to apply for the University of Edinburgh Scholarship, but will be automatically considered for this on the basis of information you provide about household income to your funding body.

Acccess Awards

University scholarships

The awards mean that university life away from home has been much more affordable and less burdensome. They have allowed me to buy all the relevant textbooks and a laptop.
