Undergraduate study - 2020 entry

GCSEs

Entry requirements for applicants with GCSEs.

We require you to achieve some specific subjects to at least GCSE.

We equate alphabetic grades with numeric grades as follows:

GCSE grade equivalencies
Alphabetic Numeric Northern Ireland GCSE
Grade A* Grade 8 A* or A
Grade A Grade 7 A
Grade B Grade 6 B
Grade C Grade 4/5 C* or C

Some of our subject areas are particularly competitive and attract many highly qualified applicants. In these circumstances we may consider the number of A*s or grade 8/9s you have achieved at GCSE, alongside your A Level grades.

We will accept International GCSEs (IGCSEs) and Level 2 Certificates as equivalent to GCSEs.

GCSE English

Unless we specify a higher level in the stated entry requirements, a pass is required in English at GCSE Grade C/4 for entry to all programmes.

GCSE Mathematics

For entry to the majority of our degree programmes in our College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences we have removed the general requirement of a GCSE in Mathematics or a science.

Our degree programmes with professional accreditation requiring Mathematics, or programmes that require a higher level of Mathematics than GCSE at C/4, will retain a specific requirement for GCSE Mathematics. These will be listed in our degree finder.

Some programmes require you to achieve a grade A in Mathematics. We will accept combinations of Mathematics and Physics both at grade B, or Mathematics, Science plus Additional Science all at grade B to meet this requirement.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved, or be predicted to achieve, our entry requirements for the programme you have applied for, to be considered for an offer of a place. You can use our degree finder to find programme entry requirements.
