Entry requirements for applicants with BTEC qualifications.
BTEC National Extended Certificates
We accept selected BTEC National Extended Certificates, in combination with A Levels, for entry to our degree programmes.
We currently accept BTEC National Extended Certificates in the following subjects:
- Applied Human Biology
- Health and Social Care
- Sport and Exercise Science
You can use a BTEC National Extended Certificate to take the place of one A Level, or its equivalent. The BTEC must be accompanied by two A Levels, and only one BTEC will be considered for each application.
We consider BTEC grade D* as equivalent to A Level grade A*, and BTEC grade D as equivalent to A Level grade A. We do not generally accept BTEC grade M except for the BTEC National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology, which we accept at D*/D/M for Oral Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and Agricultural Sciences.
Some of our degree programmes require an A Level in a specific subject.
You cannot use a BTEC to take the place of the required A Level qualification in that subject, except for the BTEC National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology, which we accept in lieu of a subject requirement for either A Level in Biology or A Level Human Biology.
We do not typically count subjects that contain a high proportion of common material (such as biology and human biology) separately. If you have an A Level in either Biology or Human Biology and a BTEC in Applied Human Biology, we will count only the qualification in which you have the highest grade.
You can find the specific subject requirements for your degree programme in the degree finder: look for the "required subjects" section under the entry requirements.
BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Art and Design
If you are studying the BTEC Nationals in Art and Design, you may be considered for entry to programmes in Art and Design.
Further information is available on our degree finder.
GCSEs required for entry
We require that you achieve some specific subjects to at least GCSE level.
