Introducing Sport
At Moray House, we offer two separate sport-related programmes:
- BSc in Applied Sport Science
- BSc in Sport Management
Applied sport science
Applied sport science involves the application of scientific principles to the promotion, maintenance and enhancement of sport and exercise-related behaviours.
Our programme is centred on four key disciplines:
- physiology
- biomechanics
- psychology
- skill acquisition
You will develop an understanding of the factors that influence participation and performance in sport and exercise.
Our programme is endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Sport management
Sport is a rapidly expanding global business. Our unique BSc Sport Management degree is well-positioned to prepare you for a career in this exciting, dynamic industry.
In the course of studying sport management, you will learn about:
- the principles of management at operational and strategic levels
- policy and governance across and within the sports industry
- the value and purpose of sport in society
- the role of marketing and communication in sport
- the social, cultural and economic importance of sport
- a range of contemporary and global issues in sport
- the relationship between sport and other industries, including health, education and tourism and heritage
- a range of research methods and traditions
We have strong links with a range of major sports organisations. These provide excellent placement opportunities and guest speakers.
Research community
On both programmes, you will benefit from our excellent facilities and state-of-the-art research equipment.
You will also join a dedicated and close-knit community of researchers and academics. Many are involved in various areas of sport, including:
- advising government departments
- national and international sport governance
- work with the media
You will have opportunities to conduct research with public, private and voluntary sports providers. Our students have previously analysed both state and non-state actors' involvement in delivering sport at local, national and international level.
