Applying for entry to second year

You can apply to enter the second year of many of our science, engineering, art and design programmes.

For all other programmes, applications for second-year entry are only considered in exceptional circumstances.

Science and engineering

You can find details of the SQA Advanced Higher or GCE A Level grades required for advanced entry to second year listed in our degree finder against relevant programmes.

If you are studying for Higher National (HN) or other relevant qualifications, for example, International Baccalaureate or German Abitur, please contact the College of Science and Engineering Admissions Office for advice on requirements.

Art and Design

Advanced entry to second year is available for all programmes except BA Art (UCAS course code W100).

Successful completion of a Foundation Diploma with achievement to at least Merit Grade, or a relevant HND or equivalent is required.

In addition, you will normally be expected to have met the minimum entry requirements for entry to year one through your previous school or college qualifications.

Other subject areas

Advanced entry to second year is not normally available for other subject areas.
