Undergraduate study - 2025 entry
Edinburgh: Extraordinary futures await.

Accepting your offer: College of Science & Engineering

What you need to do to accept an offer for degrees in the College of Science & Engineering.

1. Use UCAS Hub to check the conditions and status of your offer

  • If we have made you an unconditional offer this is because you have already satisfied all of the entry requirements for the degree and we do not require you to obtain further academic qualifications.
  • If we have made you a conditional offer this is because we require you to meet certain conditions, usually certain grades in your tests or exams. Once you have met these conditions your offer will become unconditional.
    • Conditional offers are expressed in terms of letter or number grades and not UCAS Tariff points. For example, an offer set at two B grades means that two passes at B grade or above are required. A combination of one A grade and one C grade are not regarded as the equivalent of two B grades.
    • Offer conditions are based on the information you provided in section 5B of your UCAS application and must be met in the current sitting of exams.
    • If you have any questions about these conditions, please contact the College of Science & Engineering Admissions Office as soon as possible.

Understanding our entry requirements

2. Use UCAS Hub to accept your offer

For detailed information on how to accept your offer via UCAS Hub, please see the UCAS website.

3. Send copies of your qualification certificates to the College of Science & Engineering Admissions Office

We need copies of certificates relating to any qualifications you have already achieved (as entered in section 5A of the UCAS application). Examples include:

  • SQA National 5, Standard Grade and Intermediate certificates
  • GCSE and IGCSE certificates
  • College Board or ACT transcripts (international applicants)
  • High school diploma or school leaving certificate (international applicants)

You must provide authorised translations of all certificates that are written in languages other than English.

How to submit qualification certificates

4. Make sure we are notified of your results

We receive automatic notification of the following results directly from UCAS:

  • SQA Highers and Advanced Highers
  • GCE A Levels
  • Irish Leaving Certificate
  • Welsh Baccalaureate

If your qualification is listed above or on the UCAS results webpage, you do not need to directly notify us of your results.

UCAS: automatically notified results

International Baccalaureate

If you are an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate you should ask your school IB Diploma Programme Coordinator to request that the IBO sends your results to UCAS, so that we can receive these automatically. Information for UCAS centres on this process is available in the IBO Handbook of procedures for the Diploma programme.

Other results

If you hold a conditional offer based on results in any other qualification you must send us scanned copies via email. You should do this as soon as the results become available, whether you decide to accept our offer either as Firm (i.e. your first choice) or Insurance (i.e. your back-up choice).

Not meeting terms of offer

If you do not meet the terms of your conditional offer, your application will still receive careful consideration.

If you feel that any special circumstances, such as illness, have affected your exam performance, we encourage you to follow the special circumstances procedures of the relevant exam board. Your school or college will be able to advise you about this. Please also notify the College of Science & Engineering Admissions Office so that we are aware of the situation.

5. Apply for accommodation

If you want to live in University student accommodation, you should apply by 16 August in the year your degree starts regardless of whether you are accepting your offer to study at Edinburgh as Firm or Insurance.
