English Literature and Scottish Literature
Information for applicants and offer holders about single and joint honours degree programmes involving English Literature and Scottish Literature. Welcome!
Hello from Professor Alex Thomson, Head of School
Thank you for applying for a programme in the subject area of English and Scottish Literature, and congratulations if you're already holding an offer! Either way, I’m delighted that you are interested in studying with us, and we very much hope that you will join our community.
The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures (LLC) has the UK’s oldest department of literature; one of the longest established in the world. Our students and graduates tell us that they value the School’s friendliness, the connections they have made here, and the in-depth guidance of our staff, who are experts in their field and passionate about what they do.
As well as the School’s professional Student Support Office, we have a very well-established Peer Support Group for literature (LitPALS), and a brilliant in-house Writer in Residence. There are lots of student societies for literature and drama enthusiasts.
Edinburgh is the first UNESCO World City of Literature, a fantastic literary city which many greats of English and Scottish literature have called home. Our building is located in the heart of the University of Edinburgh’s Central Area, just across George Square from the Main Library, and a short walk from the National Library of Scotland.
We’ve provided as much information as we can here to help you on your way to choosing the right university for you.
Good luck, and we hope to see you in September.
